ENDOCRINE AND BREAST SURGERY FOUNDATION

The Endocrine and Breast Surgery Conference (EBSCON) 2025 was successfully conducted on 6th and 7th December 2025 at Hotel Shivalik view, Chandigarh. Organised by the Division of Endocrine and Breast Surgery in the Department of Surgery at PGIMER, Chandigarh, in collaboration with the Indian Association of Endocrine Surgeons (IAES).
The conference served as a vibrant academic platform dedicated to recent advances, evolving paradigms, and consensus-driven practices in endocrine and breast surgery
The meeting brought together 162 delegates, including senior surgeons, national and international faculty, endocrinologists, oncologists, radiologists, trainees, and allied healthcare professionals. The diverse participation fostered rich academic exchange, multidisciplinary dialogue, and meaningful professional engagement.

Scientific Programme Overview
The two-day scientific programme was meticulously curated to balance evidence-based updates, challenging case discussions, video-based surgical learning, and interactive panels, ensuring relevance for both practicing surgeons and trainees.

Day 1: Focus on Endocrine Surgery

Day 1 was devoted to thyroid, parathyroid, and adrenal disorders, with sessions emphasising both fundamental principles and cutting-edge developments.
-
Thyroid sessions opened with a series of challenging case discussions, highlighting complex diagnostic and management dilemmas such as synchronous malignancies, intrathyroidal parathyroid disease, and unusual endocrine dualism.
-
Didactic lectures addressed contemporary issues including management of benign thyroid nodules, newer WHO classification of thyroid malignancies, medullary thyroid carcinoma, and radio-iodine resistant differentiated thyroid cancer.
-
A keynote address was delivered by Professor Quan-Yung Duh who is the president elect of International Association Of Endocrine Surgeons. The topic of his talk was on “Difficult Decisions in the Management of Thyroid Cancer” which provided global perspective and practical insights into real-world decision-making.
A dedicated video session showcased advanced surgical techniques, including robotic BABA thyroidectomy, transoral thyroidectomy, and robotic parathyroidectomy, reinforcing the role of minimally invasive and precision-based surgery.
The parathyroid session focused on complex primary hyperparathyroidism, MEN-1–associated disease, normocalcaemic hyperparathyroidism, and strategies for managing failed parathyroid surgery, generating active discussion and audience engagement.
The adrenal session highlighted challenging clinical scenarios alongside updates on adrenal incidentalomas, adrenocortical carcinoma, and the evolving role of adrenal venous sampling. Video demonstrations of laparoscopic and retroperitoneoscopic adrenalectomy further enriched the learning experience.
A special panel on endocrine surgery in low- and middle-income countries and a thought-provoking discussion on developing endocrine surgery as a subspecialty underscored the conference’s commitment to capacity building and equitable surgical care.
Day 2: Comprehensive Breast Surgery Programme

Day 2 focused on breast diseases, with an emphasis on early detection, treatment de-escalation, oncoplastic surgery, and reconstruction.
Scientific sessions covered:
-
Advances in breast imaging, including contrast-enhanced mammography and tomosynthesis
-
Breast cancer screening strategies in the Indian context
-
De-escalation of systemic therapy and axillary surgery in early breast cancer
-
Contemporary approaches to risk-reducing surgery, ovarian suppression, and ultra-hypofractionation
A major highlight was the breast surgery video session, which demonstrated a wide spectrum of oncoplastic and reconstructive techniques, including LICAP and AICAP flaps, batwing procedures, round block techniques, matrix transposition, latissimus dorsi flaps, sentinel lymph node biopsy, and robotic breast surgery. These sessions were particularly well received for their practical relevance and technical clarity.
Further lectures addressed implant-based breast reconstruction, therapeutic mammoplasty, and oncoplastic procedures for lower-quadrant breast cancers, reinforcing the importance of aesthetic outcomes alongside oncological safety.
Workshops, Posters, and Academic Engagement
Hands-on workshops on chemo port insertion provided delegates with practical exposure and valuable insights into the procedure.
Poster sessions conducted over both days witnessed enthusiastic participation from residents and young surgeons. High-quality research presentations reflected growing academic interest in endocrine and breast surgery, with four best poster awards presented to recognise outstanding scholarly work.
Conclusion

Building on the success of previous editions, EBSCON 2025 emerged as a high-impact academic meeting, marked by robust scientific content, interactive learning, and meaningful professional exchange. The conference reaffirmed its role as a key national platform dedicated to advancing evidence-based, patient-centred endocrine and breast surgery, while fostering collaboration, innovation, and mentorship.
